Our landscaping business continues to grow. We are doing a lot of work with home owners on the Catskills Mountaintop. Here we showcase our work on the Ciampa house project in a woodlands setting. This and other Kerns Landscaping Features show you examples and explain fresh new landscaping ideas that we employ when we approach a new project.

Ciampa House project: This landscaping project, in a woodland setting, again used our experience constructing retaining walls made of typical Catskill mountain stone, building stone stairs and incorporating large rocks and new trees and shrubs into the existing woodland. We used a lot of Catskills stone for walls and walkways and planted new fir trees.

Ciampa House project: We used a lot of local stone, for steps, walls, walkways and borders. The house is located on a hillside in a woodland. We added many evergreen trees and bushes, many planted on newly constructed terraces above our new stone walls.

New stone terraces are part of this project, as well as channel for a small stream that gets bigger in the rain

A house in a woodland has the advantage of shade in the hot summer and of seeing, close-up, the fabulous Catskills Fall colors. However, it also has the disadvantage, for many months, or losing the color when the leaves are gone. Aside from building stone walls and walkways, we used many large evergreen trees and evergreen bushes to add all-year-round color.

For your new landscaping project, we will draw on the wide resources of the Kerns Nursery, and on a wide network of suppliers. All plants and materials that we will use in your project will be suited to the Catskills climate and soils.
