REMEMBER:   When we are open, we welcome you to tour our many display gardens from Mother’s Day through the Fall.   

Our Coffee bar is opened from Mother’s Day Weekend through most of the summer on weekends only.  Home baked items will be on sale through July (sorry this spring baked items for sale will be delayed)  Cold drinks will be available everyday.

OFFICIALLY OPENED FOR THE SEASON

Pansies, violas, & perennials will soon be ready for sale.  Soil Mixes, pottery, seeds and gardening supplies are available for spring cleanup.  Remember our shop is also now open for the season.

May 14th MOTHER’S DAY

We have great gift ideas for mom here at the nursery.  We will have some specialty flowering plants, hanging baskets, mixed flower baskets, pansies and perennials.  WE ALSO HAVE A GREAT SELECTION OF FRESH FLOWER ARRANGEMENTS MADE TO PURCHASE OR OUR MIXED FLOWER BOUQUETS. 

Our shop has some wonderful gift ideas also.  If you are confused a gift certificate is always appreciated.

... and take 20% off all Rock garden Quarts.  Remember spring is the best time to appreciate our Rock Gardens.  

Our specialty is rock garden perennials and we will be glad to answer any questions you may have on how to get started with creating a specialty garden of your own.   With the proper planning and installation, a rock garden requires minimal maintenance.  Note, on July 15th Pat will be giving a talk on rock gardening at 10AM at the Nursery.

*Please understand that our benches are not fully supplied with the more tender plants till the week before Memorial Day as mountain frosts hit our area quite late in the season.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

The normal rule on the Mt. Top is that it should now be safe to plant most tender annuals. We are quite busy this weekend.

We will be open till 6 P.M. on Friday & Saturday & 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Please place orders by fax (518 734-3543), mail, or by e-mail the week before Memorial Day (kernsnursery@aol.com).  Orders ahead of time will be helpful,  We carefully choose the best material available.  Please call to schedule a pickup time.

Introducing the new annuals

... at 1 pm on Sunday Pat will be available to introduce you to some new specialty garden plants and how they could be used to enhance your pots and gardens. 

An informal tour through the nursery will leave time for questions.  We are starting the 2006 season with 548 Annuals ... you can review our complete list here.

CONTAINER GARDENING WEEKEND

Bring your porch boxes, pots and baskets in on Fri. or  Sat. and we will plant them for you immediately or by the next day. 

Or plant your own right here at the nursery.  We will be glad to help you choose your plants and show you how to make great combination planters.  A little fertilizer and water and you are ready to go!  
We have a great variety of simple & unusual planters of terracotta, cast stone, cedar, fiberglass, plastic, iron, wood, etc. here for sale at the nursery.  (only for planters personally brought in and picked up)

SUMMER SALE BEGINS

All our annuals, herbs, roses, hanging and planted baskets go on sale for the rest of the season.  Also clay pottery will be reduced.  Our gardens are in full bloom and we welcome you to come tour them with your weekend guests.  

JULY 1st  SATURDAY AFTERNOON TEA

Come join us here at the nursery.  Enjoy the gardens, bring a picnic lunch and between 1 P.M. and 4 P.M. have some great home baked goods or a fruit salad with coffee, lemonade or ice tea on us!

SUNDAY MORNING BRUNCH

Again we will be offering free beverages and home baked items between the hours of 10am and noon.

LILY WEEKEND

All the lovely Asiatic and fragrant oriental lilies will be on sale for the weekend.   We have a very large supply this year with a great many varieties. 

Free lilies will be given away sporadically throughout the days.

ROCK GARDENING with Pat Kerns
Offered through the Mt Top Arboretum, Pat will give a tour of the rock Gardens at Kern’s Nursery. 
Discussing how rock gardening is a great solution to keep busy people happy with their gardens and how rock work techniques can offer some currently modern solutions to landscape design.  Some great perennials will also be discussed.

Here is a great time to buy astilbes—one of our best perennials on the mountain top. 

They are hardy, deer proof, long flowering with many colors and differing heights.  They can tolerate partial sun to almost full sun.   We offer over 25 varieties.

DAYLILY WEEKEND 

All of our daylilies will be reduced 20%. 

We carry many handsome daylilies including many premium varieties. If you properly select plants with varying bloom times a bed of daylilies will give color all summer long. 

The colors range from almost white, light yellow to gold , melon to vivid orange, pinks, rose, reds, burgundy, lavenders, violets and more.  Some repeat bloom.  Some are ruffled.  Some are bicolors.  Their flowers are crisp and neat and the plants require simple cultural conditions. 

Daylilies work well individually planted, in small groups, or in mass plantings.  They also are an easy care, tall, ground cover for banks. 

HOSTA SALE

Our 30 varieties of Hosta plants will be reduced.  

Many of which are great collector varieties or just beautiful garden worthy additions to your shade, semi shade or even sunny garden. 

Hosta foliage adds peaceful substance to color busy gardens.

All perennials will be 20% off.  This is great savings on fully grown plants.

We will absolutely have a great stock of perennial plants from which to choose.  We do not have a goal each year to sell out our perennials.  We want to keep most of our collection available throughout the growing season.   And September is a perfect time to plant or install whole new garden beds.  No it is not too late.

KERNS NURSERY AT CHRISTMASTIME

Our shop will once again offer some great Holiday decorations, gifts, ornaments, and many unique items for both home and garden.  We carefully chose our entire stock and hope you will find some time to see what we are offering for sale this holiday season.

I still hand-tie all our wreaths the old fashioned way, by carefully selecting, cutting, and wiring local balsam and sometimes incorporating blue-berried juniper and incense cedar.  From small to large, our  wreaths are beyond compare. We incorporate some 15-20 varieties of pinecones and other natural and tasteful decorative accents into our wreaths, baskets, centerpieces, swags, & Yule logs. 

This year we are reducing the number of direct sell wreaths, so we encourage you to order ahead for the season.   We will take no orders for wreaths and arrangements after Dec 19th.   We also appreciate your early orders for poinsettias.
