MAY 24 - 27
.... MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND
We will be open till 6 P.M. on Friday & Saturday
and 5 p.m. on
Sunday. |
The normal rule on the Mountaintop is that it
should now be safe to plant most tender annuals. Hopefully
fear of frost is past, ESPECIALLY after our unexpected and unusual
mid-May snows.
We are quite busy this weekend and Jewett
weather forecasts (on our
website) are good.
Please place orders by fax (518 734-3543), mail, or by e-mail
(kernsnursery@aol.com).
Orders a head of time will be helpful.
Please call to schedule a
pickup time. We will have your plants, soils, mulch, etc ready
for you upon your arrival. We do the best we can to fill your
orders. We can only hold plants till our mutually agreed upon
time. If you are delayed with pick-up please call and let us
know.

JUNE 8 - 9 ... WHAT’S NEW IN ANNUALS? A LOT!!!
Discounted
specials will occur all weekend!!!
|
This weekend we will feature some of our new
varieties of specialty annuals. We search out and bring to our
nursery the great new plants the industry offers every year.
The
hottest trend now is specialty annuals, tender perennials, and
even tropicals. We use the best suppliers in the industry and
there seems to be no stopping these great varieties of garden
worthy plants that come out every year. This year is no
exception. Our collection of amazing summer flowering and
foliage plants is beyond compare. Don’t be afraid to
experiment! We welcome you to come and seek out the new.
Starting on JUNE 8th you will be able to sign up
for our special Father’s Day drawing for a free Crab Apple Tree.

we will be having you
sign up for a chance to win a crab apple tree.
Drawing will be at 3p.m.

JUNE 22 - 23 ... SORRY DEER – NO FOOD FOR YOU!
Mention this interest to us at the nursery and you
will get a
free foxglove
– that you can feed to the deer – only kidding - they won’t eat
it. |
This weekend we will be featuring some perennial and annual plants
that the deer just don’t like and hopefully just plain hate.
I’ve
had people tell me
that the deer will eat about anything when desperate enough, but
here will be a few suggestions that will probably work.
We will
also be offering some solutions that might help you control the
deer if your plantings are not limited to “deer proof” plants.

DAYLILY WEEKEND
All of our daylilies will be reduced 20% |
We carry many handsome daylilies
including many premium varieties.
If you properly select plants with
varying bloom times a bed of daylilies will give color all summer
long. The colors range from almost white, light yellow to gold ,
melon to vivid orange, pinks, rose, reds, burgundy, lavenders,
violets and more. Some repeat bloom. Some are ruffled. Some are
bicolors. Their flowers are crisp and neat and the plants require
simple cultural conditions. Daylilies work well individually
planted, in small groups, or in mass plantings. They also are an
easy care, tall, ground cover for banks.

|
JULY 27 - 29 ... HOSTA
WEEKEND
All hosta will be reduced 20%.
This year with every purchase of a
hosta take 20% off a companion astilbe of your choice. |
We carry some great varieties and some large
plants. A comforting plant for the shade or partial shade. Many
will also take a good deal of sun. I have really come to love this
group of plants. Flowers on perennials are short term, but these
great leaves in varying texture and color are amazing and last all
through out the season.
Hosta and astilbe are two of the best
shade garden companions. They absolutely look wonderful planted in
mass plantings together in slightly shady locations. Click here to
see some of the many varieties we are offering this year.

CHRISTMAS SEASON
Our shop will once again overflow with some great
Holiday decorations, gifts, ornaments, and many unique items for
both home and garden. We carefully chose our entire stock and hope
you will find some time to see what we are offering for sale this
holiday season. |
We assure you that our N.Y. State grown Christmas trees are very
fresh, healthy and well-shaped. I still hand-tie all our wreaths
the old fashioned way, by carefully selecting, cutting, and wiring
local balsam and sometimes incorporating blue-berried juniper and
incense cedar. From small to large, our wreaths are beyond
compare. We incorporate some 15-20 varieties of pinecones and other
natural and tasteful decorative accents into our wreaths, baskets,
centerpieces, swags, & Yule logs. We produce plain, simply
decorated and ornate arrangements/wreaths for a variety of tastes
and situations. We will continue to have evergreen roping
available for sale and beautiful
poinsettias in red, white and pink in several sizes. For those of
you who have never been to our shop at Christmas Time, we think you
will be surprised at our holiday decorating, entertaining and gift
choices.
